The Opportunity
The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre is seeking a Volunteer Board Treasurer to join our Board of Directors and help guide the financial health and growth of Baltimore’s one-of-a-kind theatre company.
Founded in 2019, The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit company, and the only company in the world dedicated to adapting the works of Edgar Allan Poe for the stage, , for broadcast, and in schools for literacy.

Through theatrical productions, award-winning radio dramas, educational programs, and our annual Doomsday reading marathon, we’re working to make Poe’s work—and Baltimore’s literary legacy—accessible to audiences locally and around the world.
We’re looking for someone with financial, accounting, banking, business, or nonprofit experience who can bring a thoughtful eye to our finances and help us build the organization for its next chapter.
What the Treasurer Does
- Provide financial oversight and guidance to the Board of Directors.
- Work closely with the bookkeeper to review and understand the Theatre’s financial records and reports.
- Help develop and monitor the annual budget.
- Review financial statements, cash flow, income and expenses, and overall financial performance.
- Help ensure appropriate financial controls and responsible stewardship of the Theatre’s resources.
- Assist with financial reporting and compliance appropriate to a nonprofit organization.
- Work with the Board to evaluate the financial implications of productions, programs, fundraising initiatives, and other major decisions.
- Help the Theatre develop sustainable financial practices as it grows.
- Serve as a financial resource and sounding board for the Artistic Director and Board.
- Participate in regular Board meetings and occasional discussions related to budgeting, fundraising, and financial planning.
The Treasurer is not expected to serve as the Theatre’s bookkeeper. Rather, the Treasurer provides oversight, financial perspective, and guidance while working collaboratively with the bookkeeper and Board.
