What Will You Do For Your Neighborhood?
When a sudden crisis hits their neighborhood, three young bandmates watch in disbelief as onlookers simply stream the disaster for social media likes. Refusing to sit back while their home falls apart, the trio steps up to take matters into their own hands. Backed by the wisdom and unity of their neighborhood's OG pillars, Randy, Des, and Jules get to work proving that when a community bands together, anything is possible.
Created by hip-hop icon and Darryl Makes Comics founder Darryl “DMC” McDaniels in partnership with Be The People, Gotta Be Us is a story about community power, everyday heroes, and the spark that ignites change.
From Hip-Hop Pioneer To Comic Book Creator
As a quiet kid growing up, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels found his voice and sense of identity in the pages of comic books. They gave him confidence and fueled a creative spirit that would go on to shape popular culture forever. As a founding member of Run-DMC, Darryl broke cultural barriers, sold over 40 million records, and earned inductions into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Beyond music, Darryl has dedicated his life to philanthropy and storytelling. From founding Darryl Makes Comics and writing acclaimed books to advocating for youth in foster care through The Felix Organization and championing mental health awareness, DMC continues to use his platform to empower the next generation.
Debuted At New York Comic Con 2026
DMC released Gotta Be Us at NYCC 2026 alongside the panel “Where Are the Heroes?,” between him and Scott Strode (author and founder of The Phoenix). Together, they explored the power of subcultures, community-building, and how to unleash real-world impact in a digital age.
